Short Answer: Because your quality of living depends on your government doing things smartly.
Our country and your quality of living has been held back by old people who think like old people. Their idea of a great future is one where everyone has a full-time job. My idea of a great future is one where people almost don’t have to work because we have pursued a future of only the the smartest, most sustainable, and most egalitarian ideas.
I am a retired professional engineer and I want to give you five examples of what I would fight for if you elect me as your Senator.
The most important thing I would fight for is government-by-smartphone where every citizen can propose, review, and vote on all issues of the day. Our current form of governance, where a handful of people are supposed to ‘represent’ millions is right out of the 18th century. It is now within our power to have 21st century, block-chain secure democracy where everyone literally ‘present’ themselves into the function of government. Now of course, this change can’t happen overnight. But,it needs to be started and for this reason. With government-by-smartphone, government can know not just what fractions support or oppose legislation, but it can know where support is strong or weak and even how strong or weak that support is. Ultimately, it is my dream that we can tweak democracy into a tool where the most number of people can get the most number of things they want from government and the fewest number of people get what they don’t want from their government.
Next, I would fight for green energy that is 10 times cheaper, infinitely better for the environment, and can be implemented 10 times faster than any alternative energy source. 20 miles beneath our feet is an infinite and invisible source of energy in the form of heat. We can drill a well at our existing power plants and supply steam for their turbines for literally 1000 times less than the cost of replacing those plants with renewable energy. A wind farm capable of supplying power to 3 million homes costs $11B and will take years to install. But it has to be replaced every 20 years and it doesn’t supply base load power. A deep geothermal plant can be built for $1B or 10 times less. However, if we drill at existing plants, those plants can be decarbonized in about 6 months for $11M or about 1000 times less.
In claiming that it is possible to drill 20 miles down, it is not conjecture and it is not fantasy science. It is based on hard engineering and scientific fact. The only reason it hasn’t been done is because old people in government see their job as funneling money to companies in return for campaign contributions. Why generate electricity for ten times less? From their standpoint, there are no winners in that scenario.
The next thing I will fight for is flying cars because flying cars is probably the single greatest thing that can improve your quality of life. Our old people government are demanding a future of electric cars. The problem is, they can only go where roads go, which is about one millionth of the Earth. But what is the purpose of a human conveyance? It is to take people where the want to go and to do it with the most convenience and lowest cost. A flying car is not only far cheaper to build, it can take you everywhere with the absolute most convenience. A flying car future means that everyone can get around even better than our billionaires do today.
But cars cannot fly if they are battery powered. Liquid fuel contains nearly 100 times more energy than does even the best theoretical battery. Plus, batteries weigh too much. As such, the smart call is to think of liquid fuel as a consumable battery and then use a liquid fuel that is netzero, either because you use ammonia or because you make gasoline with atmospheric CO2 and electricity.
Old people in government can’t be expected to envision what the future can and needs to be. They actually think that it is harder to manage traffic in three dimensions rather than two. They don’t care if you sit in traffic jams or if you have to toil your life away repairing worn out roads and never to to all the best places on the planet. But if you vote for me, I will find the allies to give you the future you deserve rather than the crappy, Obama-phone, 15-minute-city, dystopian future our old people government have planned for you.
Another thing I will fight for is an end to the military industrial complex. Old people see national competition as a case of where we must be ready to throw all our young people at each other in a meat grinding insanity of combat. But really, all you really need is the capability to target the instigators of any potential conflict. What I advocate for is a national policy of mutually assured destruction of a country’s leaders. And if our country is a country where government is a smartphone app, our country would thus be immune from a decapitation policy as we would have no ‘leader’ to decapitate.
Ultimately, all a country really needs to be secure is an ability to project lethal force against any heads of state in a way that is effectively indefensible. To do this, all you need to do is construct a mile long cannon that can sleep on the ocean floor until it is needed. Then, because of its length, it can accelerate a projectile to 5 miles per second and in 4 minutes, hit a target 1000 miles away. Each device could be built for a pittance and fired for a pittance. The shells could be massive in yield, they could not be shot down, and they could reach a target before that target could turn around. And as for finding your targets, like the brass leading an army, you can just use the Hubble telescope.
The last thing I will go into in this article and would fight for is 10 times cheaper, subsonic, mass transit that can be built 10 times faster. So it turns out that it is within our power to put in place 100,000 miles of high speed mass transit for what we funneled through Ukraine last year into shadow bank accounts of our ruling class. And it could be installed in one generation. Allow me to explain. Imagine a machine that spit out an endless pipe. Now imagine that, as that pipe comes out, you cut off an end piece and stick it in the ground such that the oncoming pipe will ride over this implanted pipe post. What this shows is that the entire process of installing elevated rail can be reduced to a continuous fabrication process combined with a cutting and emplacing process.
The definition of efficiency is a ratio of the material cost divided by the final cost. This process would make it possible to install elevated rail right through the middle of a city or across the country for almost the cost of the iron and cement and it could be done as fast as a mile a day. A simple monorail could be installed for 1/10th the cost of two-lane road.
But beyond this, such a system can allow fantastic speed. Old people think like old people so that current commuter rail is not only as heavy as the first railroad, it is also just about as slow. What I would fight for is building this elevated rail using something as light as possible like an Aluminum airline fuselage and I would float it on a cushion of air like an air hockey puck. A floating puck could easily reach airline speeds such that instead of foolishly trying to build electric planes, we could just fly 20 feet off the ground.
A last note I must add is how in building rail this way, this rail could be fabricated to flow liquids as well as electricity at no additional cost. This means that all the land along the rail could be developed to not only make housing affordable by accessing infinite and cheap real estate, but to also allow people to live conveniently out across the countryside. A rail could go through beautiful pristine countryside hundreds of miles from cities but people could easily get to the city in a handful of minutes. We could give all the homeless a foam igloo they could just plug into this rail and live in our national forests with electricity and water at essentially no real cost; not like the cost of war.
This is the kind of future you and your kids deserve. You deserve to live in the very best real estate this planet has to offer, with the very best access to transportation, both rail and flying car, at the very least expensive cost, all based on a sustainable philosophy.
In closing, let me comment on what wealth is. Wealth is created when, through innovation, you convert something of little value into something of greater value or you replace some service or product with a service or product with a greater result. We can turn a slightly deeper well into infinite free energy. We can turn cement and iron into airline speed rail. We can free ourselves from endless road maintenance and give everyone access to the very best that mother nature has to offer. Bottom line. If we spend less on mindless make work ways of doing things, we will just have that much more money for stuff that matters like day care or family leave, etc. All we have to do is free ourselves from old minds stuck in a desultory and impoverished past.
