When you only have to face the voters infrequently and your employers control the press, you really don’t have to represent anyone but your employer. And so it is only natural that at some point you resent the fact that you have to occasionally kiss a baby of one of the unwashed class. Maybe that’s why Biden’s crowds are so small and always have little girls in them. He doesn’t have to worry about what it may look like, he simply doesn’t want to have to perform for the public and because his team owns the press, he doesn’t have to kiss babies, only prepubescent girls. The whole idea that our ruling class has to even feign concern for voters has got to stick in their craw and of course they do resent us for it.
In that we aren’t actually represented, perhaps we should drop the pretense that we are and relieve our overlords of having to maintain the pretense that they serve us. Instead of electing the people that the press and the parties allow us to vote on, we can instead demand to be made acting members of congress through a blockchain protected smartphone app. Using digital technology, every voter can effectively become active members of a true congress of the people.
In a true people’s congress, everyone will be able to both propose and vote on legislation. Because there would be millions in the mix, corporations wouldn’t have anyone to bribe and no one could claim to be ostracized or discriminated against. Any bill proposed would have to be short and sweet as the public only has the attention span of a gerbal. Imagine that, a government of, by, and most importantly for the people. For the first time in history, we could have governance by the governed instead of by the plutocrats. And even better, the whole world could see just how simple in can be to convert from autocracy to a truedemocracynow dot com.
Now of course, with anything new, there will be critics. They will claim that mom and pop can’t vote on the something so complex and important as staying in Afghanistan for twenty years because that requires the best of the best to screw something up that badly. It may be that a true democracy would experience bumps in the road. But in all seriousness, it is almost certainly impossible that it could result in poorer performance than our current system. It takes a dedicated cohort of true criminals to steer a country so wealthy into a Venezuelan quagmire.
In the future, we will either live as a true democracy or as a fake democracy of autocratic tyranny, where the next vaccine will be viciously enforced and will fix you right up. On the bright side, being killed by your government is probably better than spending your life serving it.
